This October, pack your bags, bring out your spookiest costumes, and get ready to roll with the undead! The last weekend of October, Davis gears up for its biggest Halloween event: the West Coast’s Zombie Bike Ride Halloweekend Festival. Here's why this should be on your Halloween bucket list this year:
A Unique Halloween Experience
This isn't just about donning a zombie outfit and riding a bike. The festival, which spans from October 27th to October 29th, promises electrifying e-bikes, mad scientists, rotting robots, and even a skydiving grand finale. In fact, with over 100 sponsors and collaborators, all of Davis seems to be in on the undead action!
More than Just Zombies on Bikes
With events like Zombie Paintball and Trunk-or-Treat Extravaganza by the Mirror Image Dance Company, attendees can expect a cauldron full of activities! Think face painting, dancing, laser pistols, and even a costume runway walk. Plus, for the adults, there's a Pre-Bike Brew Party hosted by Sudwerk Brewing Co. and an 80’s cover band to transport you back in time.
A Ride with a Cause
Behind the fun and horror is a heartwarming mission. The Zombie Bike Ride has always prioritized making bicycling available for everyone, especially children with special needs. In collaboration with Norcal Trykers, the event, and its generous sponsors have so far donated more than $22,000 resulting in custom tricycles for 23 children, allowing them to experience the simple joy of a bike ride. This is all while maintaining an event that is almost entirely FREE to the public.
Davis – A Perfect Halloween Getaway
If you're coming from out of town, Davis offers a plethora of attractions. Its vibrant nightlife, art & culture, farm-to-fork dining, and diverse lodging options make it the perfect weekend getaway. And given its reputation as the bicycle capital of the U.S., make sure you explore local bike shops like Davis Cyclery, Green Bicycle Depot, and the Bike Garage. Don't feel like traveling with your bike? Rentals are available! Take in the Davis Arboretum, or stroll through downtown and experience the Davis Farmers Market.
A Community Affair
The Zombie Bike Ride is truly a community event. Whether it's the robotics team from Citrus Circuits, the Davis Fencing Academy, or neighborhood children offering ‘brain juice’, everyone seems to play a part in this undead festival. The ride takes place along the 12-mile Davis Bike Loop. See the route on the event's official website www.zombiebikeparade.com.
Most riders should be able to complete the entire Davis Bike Loop. Hop on the route at any location and ride in either direction. Although the event emphasizes bicycling, it isn't required. All active mobility participants are invited: pedestrians, scooters, skateboards, strollers, wheelchairs, powerchairs, and other modes of transportation.
For those who find it difficult to traverse bike lanes and green belts, head to Community Park, where the majority of the day’s festivities take place. Community Park has food and drink vendors, entertainment, and the Skydance Skydiving grand finale at 3:30 p.m. The Zombie Bike Ride should be treated as a community-wide amusement park, so map out your custom route!
After the bike ride, participants can join the Zombie Mash Afterparty. This isn't your regular afterparty, with Stunt Master's zombified BMX performers taking center stage, and the entire downtown pulsating with music, fire dancers, and scrumptious food and drink options. The Zombie Bike Ride in Davis promises an unforgettable experience!
